13 Reasons to Hire an Interior Designer
Renovating a space or designing a new build is a big task, and the debate on whether to hire an interior designer comes as part of the deal. It is possible to do it by yourself, but I am definitely pro-designer, even when it comes to smaller things. It can be difficult to trust a stranger with your home – it’s supposed to be a space where you feel safe and comfortable. But in the long run, the professional option is your best bet, and here are some reasons why!Read More »

Woman of the Month – Emily Henderson
Emily Henderson is another incredible designer that is an inspiration for me. Her blog was one of the first that I found, and I have kept following her ever since.
She began her career as a set stylist, which she says involved a lot of schlepping around New York carrying bags and bags of stuff. She now runs an extremely successful design business and a blog. I am always checking her blog for things that I can add to my list of things I want to learn about. One of the things that I love best about her is that she’s very open and honest – she never shies away from offering the truth to her readers and people like me who aspire to be like her.
Emily’s style is not representative of my own – in fact, her projects can often end up being something that I don’t even like. However, even though our tastes don’t align I can still appreciate how extremely talented she is. She has an almost effortless skill when it comes to blending different styles and ending up with a beautiful space. Her experience must help, but being able to visualize how things come together is a skill that can’t really be taught.
If you’re looking for eclectic bohemian inspiration, Emily is your go to girl. One day, I hope to be as successful as Emily, and to have the opportunity to work on as many gorgeous spaces as she has.

10 Important Things I’ve Learned So Far as an Interior Designer
Those of you who have been following me for a while know that I’m still relatively new to the interior design industry. It’s been one of the most eye-opening and enjoyable experiences of my life, and hopefully will continue to be the same for years to come. One of my favorite things about interior design is that there are no rules. There are guiding principles that we follow, passed down to us from designers before us and refined by every new generation. Today’s post is on the ten most important ones that I use in every design.

Interior Designer Fashion: Work-Appropriate Outfits and Ideas
One of the best things about working in a creative industry is the outfit options. You can stay in your pyjamas all day, get dressed up nice and professional, or throw on something that reminds you of Professor Trelawney. I’m more of the PJs kind of person – I like to sleep in a tshirt and cotton running shorts, so it’s easily adaptable for a day around home. When I do feel like getting properly dressed, or dressing up, I aim for something a little more business-y. I love pairing corporate staples with fun and feminine items. My options are so varied that I never really have to worry! The only thing that’s important is good field wear, which usually will consist of a t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of work boots or gumboots.
Woman of the Month – Martha O’Hara
Martha O’Hara is an incredible designer, with a fantastic firm and a wonderful team. Based out of Minnesota and Texas, the O’Hara design team has worked on some amazing projects, landing them the Best Of Houzz from 2012 to 2015. They have also won an astounding amount of awards from the American Society of Interior Designers, which you can read about here.
Martha didn’t begin in the design industry, she began as an accountant and business consultant. It’s that experience that has lead to her success since she launched her design career in 1988. Martha always insists on a good relationship between herself and her clients, meaning that not only does she understand what they want, she exceeds all expectations when it comes to quality and integrity.
