Benjamin Moore is my all time absolute favourite paint company and I always look forward to their predictive palettes like the 2017 Color Trends. They have such a stunning range of really beautiful colours, and there’s a shade for every picky painter. If I’m completely honest, there’s not a lot about the 2017 colour trends that I really like. There’s a few of the lighter shades that are quite pretty, and a couple of nice greys, but overall the palette doesn’t appeal.
There are a lot of more ‘retro’ shades that echo the current trends of the 70’s and 80’s – mustard, brown, olive, brick. I definitely prefer more ‘stately’ colours, and these ones just aren’t my cup of tea.
The blues, however, always seem to be a hit with me. I really love blue. It’s not something that I would use in my own space apart from accents, but blues just seem to always work. Gentleman’s Gray is a beautiful deep blue shade (not grey at all) and Iceberg is the softes bright blue I’ve ever seen.
As for the Colour of the Year, Shadow is a deep and muted eggplant shade that seems to work well in spaces that can handle the depth. Shadow is the perfect shade to use as a backdrop for jewel tones and medium-toned wood. This is definitely a colour that I wouldn’t use, but I can see myself recommending it to people who are drawn to the gloomy/moody trend.
I wish I had more to say about the 2017 Colour Trends, but I can’t think of too many positives. I’m sure these colours will be extremely popular, but I tend to find myself drawn towards colours that will last past a year or a quick trend. I will stick to my timeless and unfaltering greys and let someone more daring play with these shades!
