Black is one of the most popular colours to use in home design. It’s almost considered a neutral; you can dress it up with accent colours, soften it with tone-on-tone shades, or go for a stark contrast with white. You can keep it soft with a matte coat, make it shine with lacquer, use it all over the room, or keep it to one stand out piece: and I’ve found a whole lot of spaces that harness the magic of black!
My favourite way to use black is to mix in shades of white and grey. If the space feels a little bland, you can bring in colours, metals, or greenery. It’s easy to overwhelm with accessories in a black space, because your background is so simple. My personal favourite room to use black in is in the bathroom, as it can be balanced out with grey and white in marble tile.
PS: When using smaller doses of black, include a secondary item so that the colour is balanced. One black item will stand out in a jarring way. You can balance it with black light shades, a black door, or even something as simple as propping up a book with a black cover!
