How often do you look at a plain ceiling, and not realise that you’re viewing a perfect blank slate? A plain ceiling isn’t a bad thing, but if you’re inclined to go the extra mile in decorating, consider upping your ceiling game. Whether it’s something structural like coffers, or something simply decorative like wallpaper, your ceiling can be an unexpected moment in your home.
For me, I love ornamental plaster detailing – the kind you often see in homes in Paris. My other favourite is coffered ceilings. I don’t like a lot of detail, just enough to make a space feel elegant and elevated when you see it. This year I plan to give my own ceiling a fresh coat of white paint, and install crown moulding rather than the shoddily applied builders grade version that’s up there now!
