The New Neutrals: My Favourite Neutral Paint Colours

The New Neutrals: My Favourite Neutral Paint Colours - Benjamin Moore recently released their pick for 2016 colour of the year, and Simply White was the winner. As 2015 comes to a close, I wanted to reflect on neutral colours and how they've changed. Although my favourites remain whites and grays, I've appreciated the muted green and blue hues that have been entering the neutral spectrum.

2015 has been all about the neutrals – in beauty, fashion, and in decor. We’ve also seen the rise in popularity when it comes to coloured neutrals such as blues and greens. Neutral colours are the absolute basics; they’re colours that are softer and more toned down, colours that we use to set the stage of a design. From the ever-popular Revere Pewter, to the muted freshness of Guilford Green, there is a colour that will suit any person and any space.

For those of you beginning the design process, take the neutral shade that appears the most in your accent pieces, and find a neutral paint colour to match it. Use a crisp white trim, and you’ll have a beautiful and elegant base to start decorating around. In my case, I’ve chosen Simply White as my optimal wall colour. With just a hint of yellow, this white will help to lighten my room and deter the dull gray that comes from my current colour!

PS: If you’re like me, and you don’t have the option of buying Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore, there’s a trick to getting the paints you love. Head to Encycolorpedia and type in your paint name. You can then take the RGB numbers to your local paint store for a custom mix. Some websites like Resene have a find-a-colour feature where you can find colours similar to the one you want! Quarter Bianca is a great dupe for Simply White.
