Your doorway is pretty much the first thing people are going to notice about your home. I suffer from the horrible New Zealand trend of having a ranch slider as a front door, and it’s hard to make a statement with it. Doorways are something that you should customise to match your home, otherwise there will be an almost jarring disconnect between the exterior and interior.
Today’s post is a collection of chic and luxurious doorways. They aren’t in any particular order, but I’m sure you’re going to find something you truly love that will inspire you to take a risk and do up your doorway. Whether you like bright colors, or intricate carving, there is a doorway for you.
A few tips on customising your doorways: don’t be afraid of going personal with your favorite bright colors or patterns. Try using a pane of stained glass rather than clear, dutch doors for a more secure way to answer visitors, or metal filigree over glass. Try to match your door style to your architectural style, but if you feel that a different style door will work then it’s up to you to decide.
And don’t forget the area around your door! If you live in a rainy town, consider adding an extension over your entrance to protect people from the weather. This will give people a space where they can open or close umbrellas, and take off their shoes somewhere dry.
I prefer a more classic look, like a black matte or gloss, made more interesting with some cool hardware like lion head door knockers. I also love to decorate the surrounding area with plants. Your doorway is definitely an important part of your curb appeal. If you’re looking to keep the neighbourhood theme, take a walk and see what other people are doing with their doorways. If you don’t like what they have, maybe you can start a mini door design revolution.
